The Pink Tax Repeal Act would prohibit companies from charging different prices for products or services that are substantially similar just because they're marketed to or intended for different genders. The law applies to physical products like razors, deodorant, clothing, and toys, as well as services like haircuts, dry cleaning, and personal care. The key word here is "substantially similar"—the products or services need to be basically the same in materials, function, and design. A difference in color alone wouldn't justify a price difference. For services, if they take the same amount of time and effort to provide, they should cost the same regardless of who's getting the service.

If this bill became law, the Federal Trade Commission would be responsible for enforcing it and could fine companies that violate it. State attorneys general could also sue on behalf of their residents to stop the practice and recover money for people who were overcharged. Companies would need to justify any price differences between similar products or services with reasons other than gender—like actual differences in materials, manufacturing costs, or the time and effort required to provide a service.

The practical effect would be that many everyday products and services would likely become cheaper for women, or prices would equalize across genders. Consumers would pay based on what something actually costs to make or provide, not on assumptions about what different groups are willing to pay.
