# What This Bill Does

When military members get reassigned to a new base, their spouses often have to get new professional licenses to keep working in their new location. For example, a spouse who's a nurse, teacher, or lawyer needs to be licensed in the state where they're moving. This bill makes permanent a program that reimburses military spouses for the costs of getting relicensed when their family moves for a military assignment.

Right now, this reimbursement program exists but has an expiration date built into it. The bill removes that expiration date, making the program permanent rather than temporary. This means military families won't have to worry about the benefit suddenly disappearing, and they can count on this financial help whenever they're reassigned to a new duty station.

 <p>This bill makes permanent the authority for the military departments to reimburse a member of the uniformed services for qualified relicensing costs for the profession of the spouse of the member when the member is reassigned and the movement of the member's dependents is authorized at the expense of the United States. Under current law, such reimbursement may not exceed $1,000 in connection with each reassignment.</p>
