# Reproductive Data Privacy and Protection Act

This bill prevents law enforcement from using wiretaps, phone records, emails, and other electronic communications to investigate people involved with reproductive healthcare. Specifically, it stops police and federal agents from using intercepted communications or data about reproductive services to prosecute anyone who is seeking, obtaining, providing, or helping someone access reproductive care—including abortion, contraception, fertility treatments like in vitro fertilization, or related medical services.

The bill works by requiring law enforcement to make a sworn promise before they can get permission to tap phones or access electronic communications. That promise states they won't use any reproductive health information they find to start investigations or prosecutions related to reproductive care. The same restriction applies when the government tries to compel companies to hand over customer records through subpoenas or court orders. The bill defines "reproductive or sexual health information" very broadly to cover everything from abortion and contraception to fertility treatments, pregnancy-related conditions, prescriptions for reproductive medications, and even information about whether someone is sexually active.

In practical terms, this means if law enforcement is investigating someone for an unrelated crime and happens to intercept messages about someone getting an abortion or buying birth control, they cannot use that information to prosecute anyone for reproductive healthcare activities. The bill essentially creates a firewall between reproductive health data and criminal investigations, protecting people's privacy around reproductive decisions even when law enforcement has legally obtained communications for other investigative purposes.
