The bill also requires the Department of Defense to study how long it takes these boards to review cases involving veterans with PTSD or traumatic brain injury, and to figure out ways to speed up the process. This is important because veterans with service-related mental health injuries sometimes get discharged unfairly, and they deserve a fair and timely review of their cases. The Pentagon will have to report back to Congress with their findings and recommendations within six months, and they'll share a summary of the report on both the Defense Department and Veterans Affairs websites so the public can see what they found.

To amend title 10, United States Code, to prohibit a reduction in the number of personnel assigned to duty with a service review agency, to direct the Secretary of Defense to submit a report regarding consideration of reviews and appeals of discharges or dismissals, based on matters relating to post-traumatic stress disorder or traumatic brain injury, to direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to post a summary of such report online, and for other purposes.
