This bill creates a new Government Spending Oversight Committee to watch over how the federal government spends massive amounts of money that were handed out during the pandemic and through recent major legislation. Think of it as a dedicated watchdog team focused on preventing fraud, waste, and misuse of taxpayer dollars.

The committee will oversee funds distributed through programs like the COVID-19 relief packages, small business loans, unemployment benefits, infrastructure spending, and other major government initiatives. It will be led by a chairperson selected from among Inspectors General (federal auditors) and staffed by an Executive Director and team members with expertise in accounting, auditing, and investigations. The committee includes representatives from major departments like Labor, Health and Human Services, Treasury, and Defense—basically all the agencies that handed out significant money.

The committee's main jobs are to investigate fraud and mismanagement, share information and tools across agencies to catch problems, provide reports to Congress and the public about what they find, and make recommendations to agency heads about how to prevent future problems. They can issue subpoenas, conduct audits, and work with law enforcement to prosecute fraud. All their findings will be posted on a public website so taxpayers can see what happened to their money. The committee takes over the work of a temporary pandemic oversight group and officially starts operating in September 2025.
