The bill would require credit reporting agencies to clearly warn consumers about these differences in big, bold text on their websites and in marketing materials, so people stop wasting money on scores that won't help them.

When you do get your free credit score, the bill requires agencies to provide much more helpful information. They'd have to show you at least four factors that hurt your score and four that helped it, explain specific actions you could take to improve your score, show you how your score compares to other consumers using a graph, and tell you who created the scoring model. The agencies would also have to keep a record of your past credit scores for two years so you can track how your score changes over time. Additionally, the bill would require agencies to give you a free credit score automatically when you request your annual free credit report, eliminating the current situation where you have to pay extra for that information.
