This bill would let Medicare try out a new system where AI technology listens to conversations between doctors and patients, automatically creates the claim paperwork, and submits it to Medicare—all without the doctor having to manually fill out forms.

Here's how it would work in practice: A doctor would see a Medicare patient, and the system would record their conversation. The AI would then automatically figure out what services were provided, create the claim with all the necessary details, and send it to Medicare for payment. The system would also pull together the medical records needed to support the claim. The demonstration would start with at least 500 volunteer doctors in one Medicare region and would run for three years. During this test period, Medicare patients wouldn't have to pay anything out of pocket if the AI system makes a mistake and bills for something that isn't covered or isn't billed correctly—Medicare would cover those costs instead of passing them to patients.

The main benefit for patients is potentially faster, more accurate claims processing, which could mean fewer billing problems and denied claims. For doctors, it could mean significantly less time spent on administrative paperwork. However, this is just a test program to see if the technology actually works well before potentially expanding it nationwide. Medicare would have to report back to Congress after a year with results about whether the system is working, what doctors think of it, and whether it should be expanded to more areas.
