The demonstration project will run for 20 years and will apply to blind individuals who start receiving disability benefits during the first 10 years of the program. After 10 years of participating, you'd have the option to leave the program if you wanted. The goal is to gather real-world data on whether removing these financial penalties actually encourages blind Americans to work and support themselves, while still having the safety net of disability benefits to fall back on.
