# Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2024

This bill extends a program that lets the U.S. loan or lease military equipment to Ukraine and other Eastern European countries affected by Russia's invasion. The original program was created in 2022 but was set to expire after fiscal year 2023. This new bill keeps that program going through 2026, giving the U.S. government more time to send weapons, vehicles, ammunition, and other military gear to Ukraine without having to go through the normal lengthy approval process each time.

Instead of selling weapons outright (which requires congressional approval and takes time), the U.S. can quickly loan equipment to Ukraine with the understanding that it will eventually be returned or paid for.
