# The Show Me the Science Act

When government agencies create new rules and regulations, they usually base those decisions on research, data, and evidence. Right now, agencies don't always have to share the specific scientific information they used to justify those rules with the public. This bill changes that by requiring federal agencies to publish the actual data and research they relied on whenever they create a new regulation.

Here's what this means in practical terms: If the Environmental Protection Agency creates a new pollution standard, or the Food and Drug Administration sets new food safety rules, or any other federal agency issues a regulation, they would now have to show their work. Citizens, businesses, scientists, and lawmakers could see the actual studies, test results, incident reports, and other evidence that led to those decisions. This transparency would let people evaluate whether the agency's conclusions make sense based on the evidence, and it could make it easier to challenge rules that people think aren't justified by the data.

There are some exceptions built in. If an agency head determines that publishing the data would genuinely threaten public safety or national security, they don't have to release it. But they would need to explain why they're withholding the information, submit that explanation to the White House's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, and publish a notice in the Federal Register (the official government publication) explaining their reasoning. The bill also requires the White House office to create guidelines for agencies on how to follow this rule and to monitor whether they're actually doing it.

Essentially, this bill is about making government decision-making more visible and accountable by requiring agencies to show the scientific evidence behind the rules that affect people's daily lives.
