# Understanding the CATCH Fentanyl Act

This bill creates a five-year test program to try out new technology at U.S. border checkpoints to help catch drugs and contraband more effectively. Right now, border agents use X-ray machines and radiation detectors to scan vehicles and cargo coming across land borders. This bill asks the Department of Homeland Security to experiment with upgraded or completely new technologies—like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced computing systems—to see if they can do the job better and faster.

The goal is straightforward: find technology that helps border agents detect fentanyl, other illegal drugs, weapons, and smuggled goods more reliably while also speeding up the inspection process.
