The Defense Quantum Acceleration Act of 2025 directs the Department of Defense to speed up its adoption of quantum technology—advanced computing and sensing tools based on quantum physics. Right now, quantum technology is mostly in research labs. This bill tells the Pentagon to figure out which quantum technologies could actually solve real military problems, then move them from the lab into actual use by soldiers and commanders.

To make this happen, the Secretary of Defense must appoint a Principal Quantum Advisor who acts as the quarterback for all quantum efforts across the military. This advisor will identify military challenges that quantum technology could address—things like better navigation systems, underwater detection, advanced imaging, and faster computing. The advisor will also work with private companies and universities to develop these technologies faster, and coordinate with allied nations like the UK and Australia to avoid duplicating work.

The bill also creates a national defense quantum center of excellence where military labs, national laboratories, universities, and quantum companies work together to test and develop these technologies. It funds this center with $20 million per year through 2029. Additionally, the Pentagon must develop a five-year strategic plan for quantum technology and increase quantum education opportunities at military academies and officer training programs. The goal is to make sure the U.S. military gets quantum technology advantages before adversaries do, while building up the American workforce and supply chain needed to support this technology.
