The bill creates a national standard so that notarizations done in one state are automatically recognized as valid in all other states and in federal courts, as long as they follow this law or the original state's rules. This removes a major headache for people doing business across state lines—they won't have to worry about whether a notarization from another state will be accepted. However, states can still set their own additional rules and requirements for notaries, and notaries can't be forced to use technology they haven't chosen to use. The law also includes protections against fraud by preventing notaries from falsely advertising themselves as lawyers or immigration experts.
