It also covers anyone who worked for at least a year supporting the U.S. mission in Afghanistan. These individuals can apply to be classified as refugees and eventually become permanent residents. The process includes a secure online application system where people can submit their own applications or have someone apply on their behalf, even if they're still in Afghanistan.

For those already in the U.S., the bill allows eligible Afghans to adjust their status to permanent resident or conditional permanent resident. This means they can stay legally, work, and eventually become citizens. The government will conduct security checks similar to those done for refugees. Parents or guardians of Afghan allies under 18 can also qualify for permanent resident status. The bill ensures these individuals have access to refugee benefits and services, and removes fees for processing their applications and documents.

The government must establish application systems within 180 days and provide sufficient staffing to process applications efficiently. The bill authorizes funding through 2034 to support this effort, recognizing that helping these Afghan allies is both a moral obligation and a practical way to honor those who supported U.S. military operations.
