The law also creates a safety net: if the government can't get good data from the claims database for a particular test, Medicare will automatically increase that test's payment rate by the inflation rate rather than trying to recalculate it. This protects labs from sudden payment cuts when data is unavailable. Additionally, Medicare will now have to publicly explain how it calculated payment rates for lab tests, so labs and others can verify the accuracy of those calculations. Overall, the bill aims to make Medicare's lab test pricing more stable, accurate, and transparent while reducing the burden on individual laboratories to report pricing data.
