This bill creates a new federal grant program to help family caregivers support each other through peer support programs. The government will give money to nonprofits, colleges, community organizations, and tribal groups to start or expand programs where family caregivers can connect with each other—either in person or online—to share advice and emotional support. For example, one caregiver might help another figure out complicated insurance forms or medical paperwork, or simply listen and provide encouragement during a difficult time.

The grants can be used to hire and train peer support specialists who have lived experience as caregivers, and to provide mental health and behavioral support services. The bill specifically requires these programs to offer language services like translation and interpretation for people who don't speak English as their first language or who use American Sign Language. The government will prioritize funding for programs that serve communities that currently lack these services, including low-income areas, communities of color, immigrant communities, LGBTQ+ individuals, young caregivers under 35, and caregivers with disabilities.

The bill sets aside $10 million per year from 2026 through 2030 to fund these peer support programs across the country. Essentially, it recognizes that family caregivers—people who care for aging relatives, disabled family members, or others who need help—often feel isolated and overwhelmed, and this program aims to connect them with others who understand their challenges.
