They'll focus on three main areas: improving how federal agencies collect and share data about heat-related health problems, conducting research to better understand heat risks and develop solutions, and figuring out how to fund these efforts. The committee will also consult with state and local governments, tribal nations, hospitals, and community organizations to make sure the system actually meets people's real needs.

The bill allocates $5 million per year for five years to fund this new system and committee. All the data collected will be publicly available so researchers, cities, hospitals, and other organizations can use it to protect their communities. Essentially, this law recognizes that extreme heat is a serious public health threat and creates the infrastructure for the federal government to respond more effectively by sharing information, coordinating efforts, and supporting communities in preparing for and surviving dangerous heat events.
