# ABLE Age Adjustment Act

This bill makes it easier for people with disabilities to save money without losing government benefits. Specifically, it raises the age limit for who can open an ABLE account—a special savings account designed for people with disabilities.

Currently, you can only open an ABLE account if your disability started before you turned 26 years old. This bill removes that age restriction entirely, meaning anyone with a disability could open one of these accounts at any age. It also allows people who already have ABLE accounts to contribute more money to them each year—increasing the annual contribution limit to match what people can put into regular retirement savings accounts.

Why does this matter? Many people develop disabilities after age 26 through accidents, illness, or other circumstances. Right now, they're locked out of ABLE accounts even though these accounts are specifically designed to help people with disabilities manage their finances. ABLE accounts are valuable because the money saved in them doesn't count against the strict asset limits that determine eligibility for programs like Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid. Without this bill, people who become disabled later in life have to choose between saving money and keeping their government benefits—a catch-22 that forces many to stay poor. By expanding access and contribution limits, this bill gives more people with disabilities a real tool to build financial security without jeopardizing the support they depend on.

ABLE Age Adjustment Act This bill increases from 26 to 46 the age&nbsp;threshold for tax-favored ABLE (Achieving a Better Life Experience) accounts. (ABLE accounts are designed to enable individuals with disabilities to save for and pay for disability-related expenses. To establish an account, an individual must have a qualifying impairment that began before the individual attained the age threshold.)
