The Workforce of the Future Act of 2025 is designed to help American workers prepare for jobs in an economy increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and advanced technology. The bill recognizes that while AI will transform many industries and potentially displace some workers, there's also a major opportunity to train people for new tech jobs—currently there are over 400,000 unfilled computing positions in the U.S., with projections for 660,000 more by 2032.

The law requires three government departments (Labor, Commerce, and Education) to study how AI will affect different industries and workers, identifying which jobs are most at risk, which groups of people are most vulnerable to job loss, and what new skills workers will need. They'll also look at how to make sure training programs reach everyone, especially low-income communities, minorities, rural areas, and people with disabilities who currently have limited access to technology education.

To address these gaps, the bill provides $160 million in grants to schools and educational organizations to expand technology and computer science classes from elementary school through high school, with a focus on reaching underserved students. It also provides $90 million in grants to help workers already in the job market—particularly those in industries being disrupted by AI or who've recently lost jobs—get training for new high-wage positions in tech and other growing fields. The grants support teacher training, updated equipment, curriculum development, and direct worker training programs, with an emphasis on keeping these programs going after the initial funding ends.
