The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)—the federal agency that oversees consumer financial products—would gain authority to supervise and regulate BNPL lenders, similar to how they oversee banks and credit card companies. This means BNPL companies would face federal oversight, inspections, and enforcement if they violate consumer protection rules.
