Beyond forecasting improvements, the bill invests $40 million per year through 2030 to train the next generation of weather scientists and engineers. It funds scholarships, fellowships, and research programs at universities to attract talented people to work on weather prediction, artificial intelligence for forecasting, and advanced computer systems. The bill also requires NOAA to create a plan identifying what skills and expertise they'll need in the coming years and how to recruit people with those abilities. Additionally, it provides $263 million for fiscal years 2025-2026 to support weather research labs and programs that develop new forecasting technologies.
