# Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act of 2025

This bill aims to fix what many see as an unfair difference in how the military education benefit—the GI Bill—treats members of the National Guard and Reserve compared to active-duty service members. Right now, Guard and Reserve members often receive less education money than their active-duty counterparts, even though they serve their country in similar ways. This bill would make the benefits more equal across all military service types.

The GI Bill is a program that helps military members pay for college, vocational training, and other education after they leave the service. It's one of the most valuable benefits the military offers. However, the amount of money someone gets depends partly on how they served. Active-duty soldiers typically qualify for more generous benefits than those who served in the Guard or Reserve, even if they served for the same amount of time. This creates a situation where two people with similar military experience walk away with very different educational opportunities just because of which branch they served in.

By passing this bill, Congress would be saying that a Guard or Reserve member's service is worth just as much as active-duty service when it comes to education benefits. This would likely mean more money going to Guard and Reserve members for tuition, books, housing, and other school-related expenses. For the roughly 800,000 people in the Guard and Reserve, this could mean the difference between being able to afford college or not, or between attending a community college versus a four-year university. It's essentially about recognizing that all military service has value and shouldn't be treated as second-class when it comes to supporting veterans' education.
