# What This Bill Does

This bill expands a scholarship program that helps veterans become doctors. Right now, the "Veterans Healing Veterans" program offers scholarships to 18 veterans who want to attend medical school. This bill would increase that number to 28 veterans, meaning ten more veterans could get financial help pursuing a medical career each year.

The bill also adds five new medical schools to the list of schools where veterans can use these scholarships. Currently, the program works with certain medical schools across the country. The expansion adds four medical schools in Puerto Rico (University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine, San Juan Bautista School of Medicine, and Ponce Health Sciences University) and one in Texas (University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio). This means veterans in these regions would have more options for where they can study medicine with program support.

The practical effect is straightforward: more veterans get help paying for medical school, and they have more schools to choose from. This supports the program's goal of encouraging veterans to become doctors who can treat other veterans. By increasing both the number of scholarships and the number of participating schools, the bill makes it easier for veterans interested in medicine to pursue that career path without as much financial burden.

To amend the VA MISSION Act of 2018 to expand the veterans healing veterans medical access and scholarship program to include more students and schools.
