# HUD Transparency Act of 2025

This bill requires the Inspector General of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to appear before Congress once a year to report on what they've found. The Inspector General is essentially an internal watchdog whose job is to investigate problems within HUD, which oversees federal housing programs, public housing, and community development initiatives. Right now, there's no formal requirement for this person to regularly testify to Congress, so this bill creates an annual obligation to do so by October 1st each year.

During these yearly appearances, the Inspector General would have to discuss several specific topics: how well they're catching fraud, waste, and abuse of taxpayer money; whether they have enough staff and resources to do their job properly; what audits and investigations they've completed; and what recommendations they have to make HUD work better and be more accountable to the public. They'd also report on whether HUD has the funding and tools it needs to accomplish its mission of helping people find affordable housing and supporting communities.

For everyday people, this bill is about transparency and accountability. HUD programs affect millions of Americans—from people receiving housing assistance to communities getting development grants. HUD Transparency Act of 2025This bill requires the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to annually testify before Congress.Specifically, the office must testify regarding<ul><li>efforts to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse;</li><li>ability to conduct and supervise audits, investigations, and reviews;</li><li>actions to identify opportunities for HUD programs to progress and succeed;</li><li>recommendations to improve overall efficiency and public accountability;</li><li>the extent to which HUD has resources sufficient to carry out its statutory mission; and&nbsp;</li><li>ongoing activities regarding any such additional work.</li></ul>
