Right now, for-profit corporations can set up special funds called PACs (Political Action Committees) to collect money from their employees and use it to support political candidates and causes. This bill would stop that. It would only allow nonprofit organizations—like charities, unions, and advocacy groups—to set up these political funds. For-profit companies like Apple, Walmart, or Exxon would no longer be able to create or run PACs.

The bill also changes who can be asked to contribute to these political funds. Currently, corporations can solicit money from stockholders and their families, as well as executives and managers. Under this bill, only executives and administrative personnel could be asked to contribute. Regular employees and shareholders would be off-limits. Additionally, government contractors—companies that do business with the federal government—would lose the ability to operate PACs entirely, whether they're for-profit or nonprofit.

Any corporate PACs that already exist would have one year to shut down and distribute whatever money they have left. After that transition period, they simply wouldn't be allowed to operate anymore. The changes would take effect immediately once the bill becomes law, though existing PACs would get that one-year grace period to wind down their operations.

The practical effect is straightforward: this bill would significantly reduce the political influence that for-profit corporations can exercise through organized campaign contributions. Supporters argue this limits corporate money in politics, while critics contend it restricts free speech and political participation rights that corporations currently enjoy.
