# What This Bill Does

This bill asks the federal government to study two rivers in Vermont—the Nulhegan River and Paul Stream—to see if they should be protected as part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. Right now, these rivers aren't officially protected under this program, so the bill is essentially saying "let's take a closer look and figure out if they should be." The study would cover about 22 miles of the Nulhegan River (from its source near Nulhegan Pond down to where it meets the Connecticut River) and about 18 miles of Paul Stream (from West Mountain to the Connecticut River), plus any smaller streams that feed into them.

The Secretary of the Interior would have three years to complete this study and report back to Congress with findings. The report would help Congress decide whether these rivers deserve official protection status. Being designated as a wild and scenic river means the waterway gets special protections to preserve its natural character, scenic beauty, and recreational value. It doesn't automatically ban all development or activity, but it does mean any future projects would face stricter environmental review and oversight.
