# Computer Science for All Act of 2021

This bill creates a federal grant program to help schools teach computer science to students from kindergarten through high school. The federal government would provide money to states, school districts, and tribal schools that commit to expanding computer science education, with a focus on reaching students who have historically been left out of tech education.

Right now, most American schools don't offer computer science classes. Only about 45 percent of elementary and secondary schools teach computer science with actual programming and coding, even though 90 percent of parents want their kids to learn it. Meanwhile, there's a huge gap between the number of tech jobs available and the number of qualified workers to fill them—experts predict millions of new tech jobs will open up by 2028, but current education levels won't prepare enough people. This bill aims to fix that by making computer science a standard part of education, not just something available at wealthy schools.

The money would go toward training teachers to teach computer science, buying learning materials and online resources, and creating plans to get more students interested in tech and science fields overall. There's a special emphasis on reaching students who are typically underrepresented in tech—including girls, Black and Hispanic students, Native American students, and kids from low-income families. Schools would also be required to provide mentoring and extra support for these students. The bill authorizes $250 million over five years to fund these grants, and schools that receive money would have up to five years to make sure every high school student has access to computer science education.

Computer Science for All Act of 2021 This bill establishes a program through which the Department of Education must award grants to states, local educational agencies, and eligible tribal schools to serve as models for national replication of computer science education expansion efforts. Grant recipients must use these funds for certain activities, including training teachers to teach computer science and expanding access to high-quality learning materials and online options.
