# SBIR/STTR Website Improvement Act

This bill requires federal agencies that run the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs to collect and publicly share more detailed information about which universities and research institutions are helping small businesses with their funded projects.

Currently, when the government gives money to small companies to develop new technologies or conduct research, those companies often partner with universities and research institutions to do the actual work. Right now, the government doesn't systematically track or publish information about these partnerships. This bill changes that by requiring agencies to collect specific details about every university or research center that gets involved in these projects, including the institution's name, location, and what type of organization it is. For colleges and universities specifically, the bill also requires tracking whether they're minority-serving institutions, tribal colleges, or other specially designated schools.

The practical effect is that this information will be made available to the public through an online database, giving researchers, policymakers, and the public better visibility into how SBIR and STTR funding flows through the research ecosystem. This could help identify which institutions are getting opportunities to partner on these projects and which ones might be underrepresented. It also creates accountability and transparency around how federal research dollars are being distributed. The bill gives federal agencies one year from when it becomes law to update their databases with all this new information.
