Retirement plans will now have to tell workers exactly what they're invested in regarding sanctioned entities and foreign adversary companies. This includes the total value of these investments, which specific companies are involved, why the plan decided to keep these investments, and who at the plan made these decisions. Workers will receive this information in their regular plan statements, giving them transparency about whether their retirement savings are connected to entities the government considers threats to national security.

The Department of Labor has one year to write the detailed rules for how this works in practice. Once those rules are in place, retirement plans will need to audit their holdings, identify any problematic investments, and either divest from them or comply with the new disclosure requirements if they're grandfathered in under the existing investment exception.
