The Feed the Community Act makes it easier for businesses and individuals to donate equipment and vehicles to food charities by giving them better tax breaks. Right now, when someone donates food to a nonprofit that feeds hungry people, they get a tax deduction. This bill extends that same tax benefit to donations of things like refrigerators, delivery trucks, insulated bags, and commercial cooking equipment—basically the tools that food charities need to store, prepare, and deliver meals.

Here's what qualifies: food storage equipment (like commercial fridges and freezers), food transportation vehicles (delivery trucks and vans), meal transport equipment (insulated bags and warming boxes), and meal preparation equipment (industrial ovens, food sealers, and similar machinery). The donation must go to a nonprofit whose main job is feeding people in need. For smaller items like insulated bags, donors can deduct up to $500 per year. For bigger equipment like cooking machinery, the limit is $15,000 per year. For some of these items, donors can choose to reduce their deduction by up to 25 percent of the item's value if that works better for their taxes.

The practical effect is that food banks, soup kitchens, meal delivery programs, and similar organizations will find it easier to get donations of the equipment they desperately need. Donors get rewarded with tax deductions for helping, and charities get the tools to serve more people. The changes take effect for tax years starting after December 31, 2025.
