The Climate Justice Grants Act creates a new grant program run by the Environmental Protection Agency to help communities that have been disproportionately affected by pollution and climate change. These grants will help these organizations build their capacity to tackle climate issues and implement specific projects like community solar and wind energy, electric vehicle charging stations, home weatherization, and natural infrastructure projects like wetland restoration. The bill recognizes that some communities have historically borne a heavier burden from pollution and climate impacts despite contributing less to the problem, and aims to ensure these communities have a meaningful voice in climate solutions. The EPA will receive $1 billion per year from 2026 through 2035 to fund these grants, with at least 98 percent of the money going directly to projects rather than administrative costs.
