Right now, the federal government controls how much money Washington D.C.'s Chief Financial Officer can earn. This bill would change that by letting D.C. set its own salary for this position instead of having Congress dictate the pay.

The Chief Financial Officer is basically D.C.'s top money manager—the person responsible for handling the city's budget, finances, and accounting. Currently, there's a federal law that caps how much this person can be paid, which ties their salary to what federal employees in similar positions make.
