# Understanding the Combating Implicit Bias in Education Act

This bill creates a new federal grant program that gives money to school districts to train teachers, principals, and staff on recognizing and addressing their own unconscious biases. Third, it addresses how academic resources get distributed, ensuring that all students get equal access to quality teaching and materials regardless of their background. Beyond these specific issues, the training is also meant to improve overall school climate and relationships between students and staff, which can boost academic achievement for everyone.

The bill would provide $10 million per year for three years to school districts that apply for and win these competitive grants. Schools would need to explain how they plan to use the money for training and would be required to show whether their efforts actually work. An independent research organization would evaluate the program to see if the training actually reduces bias-based discrimination and improves student outcomes. This is essentially an investment in helping educators become more aware of their own biases so they can treat all students more fairly.
