# What This Bill Actually Does

This bill requires the Federal Reserve to provide much more detailed information about how it spends money and where its employees work. Right now, the Federal Reserve publishes an annual report, but it doesn't break down its spending in much detail. This bill would force the Fed to show Congress and the public exactly how much money and how many employees go toward different activities—things like supervising banks, handling legal matters, running payment systems, conducting economic research, and managing administrative tasks.

The bill also requires the Federal Reserve to identify its three biggest research priorities each year and explain how much money is being spent on them. Additionally, whenever the Fed creates new rules or guidance for banks and financial institutions, it would have to report how much it cost to develop those rules. This information would be included in the Fed's annual report to Congress, making it public record that anyone can access.

The practical effect is transparency. Right now, it's hard for Congress members, journalists, and citizens to understand exactly what the Federal Reserve is doing with its budget and staff. This bill would make that information available so people can see whether the Fed is spending its resources wisely and whether its priorities align with what Congress and the public think is important. The changes wouldn't take effect immediately—they'd kick in two years after the bill becomes law, giving the Federal Reserve time to set up the new reporting systems needed to track and organize this information.
