# TSA Commuting Fairness Act

This bill asks the Transportation Security Administration to study whether airport security officers should get paid for their commute time to and from airport parking lots and transit stops. Right now, TSA employees typically drive or take the bus to an airport, park their car or get off at a transit stop, and then walk to their actual workplace inside the terminal. That travel time from the parking area to their duty station isn't currently counted as work time, even though it's a necessary part of getting to their job.

The bill requires the TSA to investigate how long this walk actually takes at different sizes of airports—small regional airports versus major hubs like JFK or LAX—and whether it would be practical to count those minutes as paid work hours. The study would also look at how much this would cost if implemented, including whether those hours would count toward retirement benefits. The agency would need to figure out how employees could report when they arrive at and leave from parking areas, possibly using their phones or location tracking technology.
