This bill is designed to strengthen how America teaches foreign languages and international studies at colleges and universities. The bill does three main things. First, it expands what graduate students can study by allowing them to count foreign language courses as part of their specialized degree programs—so a student studying international business could officially count their Arabic classes toward their degree requirements. Second, it creates a new federal grant program to fund research projects that measure what's working and what's not in international education. Universities, libraries, and nonprofit organizations can apply for these grants to study things like how many foreign language teachers exist in the country, what skills employers are looking for, and what barriers prevent schools from offering these programs.
