This bill creates a program to help military medics transition into civilian healthcare jobs after they leave the armed forces. Right now, many military medics struggle to get civilian healthcare jobs because their military training and credentials don't always translate clearly to civilian positions like nurse aide, practical nurse, or medical assistant roles.

The bill requires the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security to work with states, the VA, and other agencies to figure out what's blocking this transition and come up with solutions. They need to identify problems like unclear credential equivalencies, lack of standardized military training, and gaps in transition assistance programs. Within six months, they must report back to Congress with recommendations and a plan to fix these issues.

The bill also creates a pilot grant program where healthcare providers in underserved areas—like rural clinics, nursing homes, and federally qualified health centers—can apply for federal funding to hire and train separating military members. Grants can be up to $600,000 for the first three years, then $200,000 per year for renewal periods. Healthcare providers can use this money to help transitioning service members get licensed, certified, or credentialed in their new civilian roles. The program is designed to improve healthcare access in areas that need it most while giving military medics a clearer path to civilian healthcare careers.
