The AI Workforce PREPARE Act is a federal law designed to help the United States prepare for how artificial intelligence will change the job market. The law creates several new initiatives to gather better data and make smarter predictions. It establishes a research hub within the Department of Labor to study AI's impact on workers and jobs. It also funds prize competitions to develop better ways of measuring what tasks AI can actually do, which will help improve job forecasting. The government will collect voluntary data from companies about how they're using AI and which workers are affected. Additionally, the bill allows the Labor Department to quickly hire up to 20 AI and data science experts to help with this work, offering competitive salaries to attract top talent.

The law also requires the government to track how workers move between different jobs, especially in fields affected by AI, so we can better understand employment transitions. It funds workshops and research to figure out the best ways to implement all these efforts and improve job training programs. The bill essentially says: before AI disrupts the workforce, let's gather the information we need to help workers, schools, and employers adapt. The funding runs through 2030, with about $22 million allocated across various initiatives, and most of the requirements expire after four years unless Congress extends them.
