Policy doesn't have to be painful.

How Congress Works

Congress is the legislative branch of the U.S. federal government, made up of the Senate (100 senators, 2 per state) and the House of Representatives (435 members based on population). Together they write and pass the laws that govern the country.

Why Advocate in Congress

Congress responds to constituent voices. Every bill that becomes law starts as an idea, and organized advocacy shapes which ideas get attention. Your engagement directly influences how your representatives vote.

How MyCapitol Can Help

MyCapitol gives you real-time access to legislative data, campaign finance, lobbying networks, and AI-powered tools—all in one place. Turn complex congressional data into clear, actionable insights.

🚀 How to Get Started

1

Orient yourself

Open Policy Landscape to understand the terrain — which areas are active, who the key players are, and where money is flowing. Use the Congress Selector in the header to toggle between the 118th and 119th sessions.

2

Drill into the details

From any search result, click through to see the full picture: bill status timelines and momentum, a representative's campaign donors and committee seats, or an organization's lobbying spend and endorsement history.

3

Map the influence network

Go to Networks to visualize relationships between bills, members, and organizations. Use path-finding to trace connections between any two entities — useful for understanding who is shaping a piece of legislation and why. You can also generate a network directly from any bill, representative, or organization page.

4

Follow what matters

Click Follow on any bill, representative, organization, or hearing. Followed items appear on your Dashboard, and any new activity (status changes, new co-sponsors, oversight letters, hearings) shows up in your Newsfeed. Use Notes to log observations and meeting outcomes.

5

Ask Billie

Click the floating chat bubble or go to Chat and ask a plain-English question: "What bills address housing affordability?" or "Who funds energy legislation?" Billie's Search Mode returns curated results with links, saving you time before you dig into filters.

6

Generate a document with Billie

Open Billie > Create Mode or go to Create Policy and select a document type: Talking Points, Policy Memo, Bill Text, Oversight Letter, or Strategic Advocacy Plan. Fill in the context form — Billie pulls from real legislative data to produce a draft you can edit and download.
