Influence data

What is this data and where does it come from?

The raw numbers, queryable. Click a column to rank by it, filter it down, and follow any row to the lawmakers, organizations, and bills behind it. Ask Billie (above the table) to untangle who's connected to whom, or check the FAQs for what these filings actually are.

Built from federal filings: Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA) reports for domestic lobbying, FEC campaign-finance records, endorsements extracted from public statements, Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) filings, and members' personal financial disclosures.

Everything under PFD is read automatically from lawmakers' official financial disclosure filings (House filings are PDF documents) and may contain extraction errors. Values are ranges because the law only requires ranges. Every row links to the source filing so you can verify it.

Financial disclosure data is shown for transparency and accountability. Federal law (5 U.S.C. § 13107) prohibits using these reports for any unlawful or commercial purpose, to determine anyone's credit rating, or — directly or indirectly — to solicit money for any political, charitable, or other purpose. MyCapitol does not solicit donations on the basis of this information.

Every row is one trade a lawmaker reported on a personal financial disclosure — a purchase, sale, or exchange by the member, their spouse, jointly, or a dependent child. Compare who trades most, which stocks recur, and open the source filing behind any row.

Trades over $1,000 must be reported within 45 days on a periodic transaction report; annual reports list the year’s trades again. Where a year’s annual report carries the trades, the report copies are not double-counted. Amounts are the ranges as filed — the law does not require exact figures.
